Team Salon 7000 has been collecting hair for a few months and sending it to the Gulf Coast. Now that the leak is contained, we want to let you know how your hair has been helping clean up the gulf!

How does hair help clean up efforts? The leftover pieces of hair are bundled into nylons (yes pantyhose) and used to absorb oil in the water. The bundles are long tubes called dreds and hair is very effective at absorbing oil. It is an eco-friendly way to clean up this ecological mess.

Last month, Salon 7000 participated in a Locks of Love event at McClintock High. Eight students donated 10″ of hair each to make hairpieces for children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Our stylists donated their time and equipment to the cause, the first of its kind that we had been involved in. The event was provided an opportunity to something amazing and for us to get some pretty cool publicity. The event was featured on local news stations and on AZCentral.com, where you can read the complete article “McClintock High School students donate hair for good cause.”
